A network technician (NT) is responsible for implementing, maintaining, and repairing computer networks. NT responds to maintenance requests regarding system faults and other issues, troubleshoots problems with network systems by running tests and maintaining inventory for computer hardware. NT focuses on performing installations and routine system maintenance. NT also works with IT Staff and employees to coordinate installations and software updates. NT sets up internet connections in different sites and connect them with physical cables or wireless frequencies. NT also sets up wireless networks in an institution for clients’ use.
- Designing and installing well-functioning computer networks.
- Evaluating network performance and finding ways of improvement
- Fixing problems in LAN infrastructure
- Inspecting LAN infrastructure and fixing minor or major problems
- Maintaining and repairing hardware including peripheral devices
- Providing technical direction and giving training to coworkers/service personnel about network systems
- Troubleshooting system failures and identifying problems in the network
- Working with vendors to get needed equipment for the networks and systems
